King County Gym Discount Program

The Gym Discount Program is designed to support employees, retirees and their spouses/partners/dependents in building or maintaining healthy habits through regular physical activity. King County’s Gym Discount Program was created to encourage and support regular physical activity among King County employees, retirees and dependents.

King County asked gyms throughout the Puget Sound region if they would be interested in providing discounts to King County employees.

Gyms participating in the discount program were selected because they offer a full range of education, instruction and counseling on physical activities with or without equipment. Additionally they offer a discount to employees, retirees, and dependents. These discounts are good for a year except when otherwise indicated.

Finally, participating gyms had to be able to accommodate at least 25 people at a time.

Employees, retirees, and their dependents are eligible for discounts provided by participating gyms.

Participation by gyms is voluntary. Your gym might have chosen not to participate, or you may attend a gym that hasn’t heard of the program. You can ask if your gym would consider participation in King County’s Gym Discount Program. If they are interested, have them contact the Health Matters Team via email: Health.Matters@kingcounty.gov or phone: 206-263-6085.

In most cases discounts are good for at least one year. Check the specific gym for the discount effective date by going to the Find a Gym page and clicking on the gym in question.

For active employees, proof of employment is a King County identification badge or a current pay stub.

If a spouse or domestic partner joins a gym at the same time as the active employee, the employee's proof of employment is all that will be required. If the spouse/domestic partner joins at a different time than the active employee, two pieces of identification are required:

1) Proof of employment (pay stub) and

2) Proof of same residence (driver's license or other photo ID with address)

Retirees need to contact Benefits and Retirement Operations Section (BROS) and request a letter to confim their eligibility for the Gym Discount Program. BROS may be contacted by email:kcbenefits@kingcounty.gov or phone: 206-684-1556.

Some gyms have additional enrollment requirements which have been included with the discount information. Check the specific gym's Web page.

If your gym would like to be considered as a participant, they should contact the Health Matters Team at Health.Matters@kingcounty.gov or call 206-263-6085.

After you have had a chance to confirm the discount offered, send either an email or letter to the gym in question, attention customer services manager.

All concerns about the services provided at the gyms should also be directed to the gym’s customer service representatives. Some gyms have provided specific contact information with their discount information. Check the specific gym's Web page.

No. Employees, retirees, and dependents must pay the entire cost of gym membership. The program is strictly voluntary and is not a budgeted program that is paid for by King County. The Gym Discount Program provides a means for all participants to develop healthy lifestyles by exercising and moving more at a gym of choice.

No. The Gym Discount Program is for individual use and would not be an appropriate use of public funds.
