Focus on Employees

A. The Health Reform Initiative Team (HRI Team) has, through the competitive bid process, generated a talent pool of external contractor/trainers with proven track records. HRI has entered into master contracts with these contractor/ trainers. Each of these contractors has the requisite skills, resources and strategies for facilitating employees in making changes and sustaining healthier choices and behaviors. Additionally the HRI team in coordination with King County Risk Management has ensured that the contractors have the required insurance to protect King County employees and King County.

A. Through the Healthy Workplace Funding Initiative (HWFI), many employees requested one-time or multi-session classes, trainings and instruction to support their health/fitness goals. Examples included yoga, Pilate’s, cycling, weight conditioning and nutrition. The HRI team through a competitive bid process, developed a growing list of master contracts with reputable vendors for these services. Agencies and organizations in King County can use these contracts without going through a separate competitive procurement process, saving considerable time and money.

A. King County employees have a big voice in determining what services are invited to take part in our Master Contracts program. Employee demand, as well as skill, track record, total price and ability to provide insurance (in accordance with Risk Management) all factor into the decision. If you have a favorite instructor or trainer that you would like to see on the Master Contracts Vendor list, email HWFI with the details.

A. All instructors or trainers must be approved by the Healthy Workplace Funding Initiative. If a vendor meets the approval requirements, they would be asked to respond to the Request for Qualifications, required of all contractors. The instructor, trainer will be added to the Master Contracts Vendor list if they are willing and able to meet professional qualifications, references, and insurance requirements, and offer services to King County at a reasonable price.

A. You can download a copy of the current Master Contracts Vendor matrixto see what services are currently offered. We will update this matrix as more vendors/services are added.

A. We have included contact names, email address and phone numbers of all vendors on the Master Contract Vendor matrix. Organizations are encouraged to contact and interview the vendors, and decide who they want to contract. Once a decision is made, fill out the Consultant Selection Form.

A. No, agencies are not required to use the Master Contract Vendor list. If your organization decides to purchase an incentive that requires an instructor that is not represented on the list, your purchase must be in accordance with King County approved policies and procedures for the procurements of goods and services, as outlined on this web page.

A. Funding is based on $25 per benefits-eligible employee per year and is appropriated for use by the agencies and departments of King County. While based on a per-employee calculation, the funds should be viewed as a “pool” to be used for the general benefit of employees as a whole.

A. Yes, as long as the request service has been vetted through the HWFI Approval Process.

A. Yes, all instructors and trainers must carry a predetermined amount of insurance as specified by the Risk Management Office. You can contact Risk Management for more details about insurance.

A. Yes, all employees must read, acknowlege and sign a Risk Waiver of Liability form before they will be allowed to take part in a physical activity class. There are no exceptions.

A. Whether at the worksite or elsewhere, your attendance at these classe, seminars, workouts, etc. must take place on your own time. This can be before work, on your lunch/dinner hour, or after work.
