NOTES:
1. These data are subject to delays in reporting; annual adjusted data are presented in HIV/AIDS Epidemiology Reports at http://www.metrokc.gov/health/apu/epi/epireports.htm. AIDS case numbers are very complete despite delays in reporting, but the HIV case numbers are incomplete for two reasons. HIV diagnosed prior to implementing HIV infection reporting in Washington in September 1999 are incomplete. In addition, many persons with HIV infection have not yet been diagnosed. Of the estimated 7,200-7,800 King County residents living with HIV infection or AIDS, 6,268 are described above, some are not yet reported to Public Health, and some have not yet been diagnosed. In some months the total number of persons living with HIV or AIDS may be smaller than published previously because of updated information on deaths, previous diagnoses in other states, duplicate reports, or error.
2. Includes 133 presumed heterosexual cases (females who deny injection drug use but have had sexual intercourse with a man whose HIV status and HIV risk behaviors are unknown).
3. Residence at the time of diagnosis with AIDS (for AIDS cases) or HIV (for HIV cases).
4. These are the most recent U.S. available data. U.S. "HIV NOT AIDS" data are for the 42 states and areas with confidential named-based HIV infection reporting. HIV deaths were imputed from CDC data tables.
